Vibe coding sucks. AI doesn’t. It is a tool, like any other. It is easier than ever to learn and build anything. That’s great, but there’s a catch.
I was pretty happy where tech was going until agentic AI became a thing. I think agentic AI is capable of producing code. In fact, it produces code at much faster rate than any human can do. As of today, tech is trying to sell this idea that agentic AI has no sky, has no limit. That, as long as you keep wasting tokens, there will be a successful outcome. I think this is BS. You do see an outcome and it so fast you may be too distracted to notice, however, agentic AI is situational. Using it all the time will turn the driver dumb.
When I started taking coding more seriously, I read somewhere a developer spends 99% of its time reading code and 1% writing code. In my experience the numbers may not be exact those, but I don’t think they differ that much. Plus, writing is slower than reading, providing a good time window for a solid chain of thoughts.
Now, with the consecutive use of agentic AI we lose track of the changes. There’s no knowledge retained. It is not done by us, it is purely AI. We cannot think that whatever AI outputs mirrors our knowledge. Coding is not a skill as easy as learning how to cycle or how to read. The celing is much higher. There are developers with 20+ years of experience still learning on the daily basis. The world changes quickly too and there are new things everyday. Therefore, coding is much more like running. As long as one keeps running, keeps improving, however, the moment ones stops, the coding skills start to rust (no pun intended!).
That said, these are my predictions for the following times:
- AI models will keep getting slightly better
- AI will eventually get too expensive (as of today, we still don’t know how much AI actually costs without subsidizing)
- AI will still be provided through some companies, but it will be too expensive for personal use
- Computer Science area will have less students enrolled which may be good to flat out the developer market.
- When vibe coding becomes no longer feasible, there will be an hangover transition for many developers.
- AGI is a marketing scheme
- There will be a market crash due to all the AI lies
